How To Exercise Your Skin

"What do you mean - exercise your skin ???!!!!" - The woman I was talking to looked at me with shock. She has just complemented me on the state of my skin and asked me how I get it to be so firm and smooth.  I told her I was exercising it.

I am not quite sure why people get so shocked at my statement, after all it seems that all the OTHER body parts need to be worked hard to stay in the best shape:

  • if muscles are not exercised, they go soft and flabby
  • brain exercises make it more efficient
  • exercising will strengthen your heart
  • your digestive tract will not process food properly if you don't exercise it with a lot of fiber etc

Pretty much every part of your body will become stronger and younger if you keep it in top shape by exercising it.

So - why not your skin?

Contrary to popular belief, your skin is not a fragile, delicate and helpless. In fact, it responds best to some very harsh treatments such as lasers, microdermabrasion and needling, so it makes sense to give your skin what it needs by stimulating it rather than weaken its natural rejuvenating abilities by treating it too delicately.stretchy_skin

However, you don't have to resort to paying a small fortune and attend beauty parlors to get great effects. You can get fantastic results in the privacy of your home.

Here are couple of simple ways of exercising your skin at home:

1. Dry skin brushing. Using a soft brush firmly stroke your skin in a pattern which will stimulate lymph fluid and help to detox your skin. Do it daily for best results. Within days your skin will respond and become firm and glowing.

Dry brushing2. Sauna. Extreme sweating will also stimulate blood flow and detox the skin. Sweat is acidic, so your skin will be soft and well exfoliated. I love following my sauna sessions with a cool shower - if feels amazingly invigorating.

3. Physical exercises - for the same reason as sauna - it makes you sweat and stimulates blood flow even to the smallest capillaries. Myself, I am not a great fan of vigorous exercising. My choice of sport is Pilates and Yoga, so I have to get other ways to exercise my skin, hence my next point...

4. Baiden Mitten - this is my choice for exercising my skin, possibly because I can get quite lazy and it only requires about 20 minutes a week. Just soak in the tub or under a shower and scrub. Baiden Mitten will remove all the dead skin layer build up and open your pores and then it will also stimulate blood flow through intense scrubbing. 20 minutes, and you are done for the week. Make no mistake, it can be quite a workout if you do your whole body in one session but, after all, you have to put some work if you want to get great results in anything 🙂
